Catwoman #41 Review

I have enjoyed Tini Howard's gritty, mob-infested Catwoman story so far. It has grabbed a lot of inspiration from Genevieve Valentine's DCYou run but is doing its own thing as well. So, let's jump into this week's issue and see what's going on with Selina, Valmont, Dario, and the rest of the Cat-Crew!
Catwoman #41 opens with Dario becoming more and more an outsider (and liability) in his own family, and when the business is the family, that's not a good thing. It's a pretty powerful scene that shows the reader, but more so Dario, just where Noah's real allegiances lie.
We then zip off to Selina and Valmont to verify that those goons at the end of the last issue weren't just sleeping in those body bags. Of course, Selina isn't so hip on the killing (she is no Wrong Turn - bonus points to everyone who knows what I'm talking about!), but she's not the only one. Yep, this issue has a guest star that I would not have bet on seeing in a million years. No, I'm not talking about Flamingo!
While the guest star kind of throws the focus off a bit here, and comes out of nowhere, I think it's cool seeing Tini Howard have some fun with her and Selina. I have to admit, when Dario joined in to make a trio, I laughed at how much I was enjoying this unexpected team-up!
There wasn't much forwarding progression as far as the overall plot went, but Howard is writing a slow-burn story here, and I am enjoying it. While the focus, of course, is on Catwoman, everything involving the maneuvering and postering of Gotham's Crime bosses is also very intriguing. It is way obvious that Catwoman will have to go up against Black Mask eventually, so seeing both of them position themselves is excellent. I know it's beyond cliché in a Catwoman book to say "it's a game of cat and mouse," so I want you all to replace "mouse" with "mask," and we will call it a win!
I enjoyed everything up to the cliffhanger, and then things cranked to eleven! It looks like the slow burn is heating up, and I can only hope that old friendships haven't completely gone away because it does not look great for Catwoman and Dario.

Bits and Pieces:
Catwoman #41 is another special issue from Tini Howard and Nico Leon. Howard is working a bunch of different angles here, and they come together nicely in this issue which also looks spectacular. Highly Recommended!
