It's Not Easy Being... Dino

Writer: Brandon Thomas
Artist: Ronan Cliquet
Publisher: DC Comics
Release Date: March 23, 2022
Cover Price: $3.99

I don't know if I have been confused about why a book exists more than this book ever.  It is such a mix-and-match bunch of ideas thrown together haphazardly that it would be a shock if it did make sense.  So, let's see if the penultimate issue clears anything up or is just par for the course.

The issue opens up with Aquaman and Green Arrow (now in their proper bodies) taking down Anderton's past crew with the dinosaur version of himself.  Of course, his non-dinosaur self freaks out and runs away, and Aquaman and Dino-Anderton give chase.

We find out that there are still dinosaurs (besides Anderton) in what should be a fixed timeline, and while they capture human Anderton, Green Arrow has a plan to figure things out.  Yea, it involves Dino-Anderton almost getting eaten by a Jurassic Fish Monster and Martian Manhunter punking everyone, but at least it's a plan!

We don't get a lot of new information about Anderton or Scorpio, but it looks like the real bad guy might be Aquaman?  I don't know what Brandon Thomas has against Arthur, but this is out of nowhere.  Hopefully, the finale clears things up, but this whole series has been a continuous stream of utter nonsense, so I am not counting on a proper resolution.

This book continues to look spectacular, but I am guessing most readers have bailed at this stage.  While this story has a Silver Age feel to it, it's because of all the wrong reasons.

Bits and Pieces:

Aquaman / Green Arrow: Deep Target #6 continues what might be the most convoluted story from DC Comics in years.  Since the body-switching through timeline change (?) has been resolved, Brandon Thomas throws another eye-rolling one at readers to set up the finale.  I don't think many people are reading this book, but if you have been, you know what to expect - great art with a wonky story.

5.0/10
