The Knights Who Go AHHHH!

Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: Yasmin Putri
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: March 1, 2022

I have been enjoying this series since it started, and while I thought the last issue was a bit down, I have confidence that Tom Taylor will get things back on track with this issue.  So, now that Batman knows the whole truth of his heritage, will he tell Kal-El?  Let's find out...

The issue opens with Harley Quinn visiting the "Forest Witch" Poison Ivy.  I liked the interaction between the two, but the scene went on a bit too long and, in the end, had that Tom Taylor fan service for fan service sake feeling.

Things continue with Wonder Woman trying to get to Zala but being detained a bit by Ivy.  Again, I liked the shit-talking interaction between the two, but other than showing they don't get along, it didn't do much for the overall story.

However, things pick up when Diana does get to talk to Zara.  Unless something crazy is going on here, Zala just became even eviler!  That's quite a feat for a character who killed a child, but I think she did it! That is, if it was actually here who did it! That’s why this is such a good twist.

Until now, Taylor has shed a good light on the Els, but halfway through this issue, I started thinking that we don't know too much about Kal, his sister, or even his mother.  I mentioned that the last issue was a bit of a downer for me and the main reason was that  Jor-EL and Martha Wayne knocking boots and having Bruce was accepted in a forced and phony way.  I'm starting to think that now Jor-El is dead; certain people might show their true colors.

Of course, that line of thinking was influenced by what happens near the end of this chapter.  I won't spoil it, but I was hoping this book wouldn't go full Game of Thrones, but it looks like that's going to happen.  However, a swerve comes out of nowhere in such an incredible way that I don't mind right now.

I liked this issue a lot.  I thought Taylor could have tightened the beginning up a bit, but once things got moving, I loved it.  Yasmine Putri is back on art, and the book looked stunning throughout.

Bits and Pieces:

Dark Knights of Steel #5 got the series back on track, and by the end of the issue, I'm not sure how things will go next.  However, I do know I'll be here for it!  The art is fantastic and this continues to be one of my favorite books right now.

8.3/10
